The Elements class takes place every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 2:30-4:30pm at the Town Lake YMCA in the large group exercise room on the first floor.
Class will be taught by Brandon Gonzales. The theme this month will be expanding body awareness, exploring different levels of sensory perception and imagination while moving in relationship to other people.
What is the feeling of our contact? How is our dialogue resonating and taking shape? Inspired by elements from contact improvisation we’ll find pathways that bridge our sensory perceptions to the dances we create. Flexing our muscles of attention, we’ll investigate how we move and imagine together. Let’s discover new ways of being “in touch.”
Brandon Gonzalez (USA) is an interdisciplinary artist and teacher working in the USA and Europe. As a former martial arts practitioner, Brandon is interested in how bodies physically and mentally attune each other. Since he was introduced to the propositions of Contact Improvisation over fifteen years ago, he explores the performing body and shared kinesthetic experience as artistic materials. Brandon views dance improvisation as an open field of inquiry and an ongoing exchange between practitioners.
Brandon is currently teaching at Texas State University and has taught CI and Contemporary Dance at University of California Davis, Arizona State University, and at many independent workshops. His interdisciplinary performance work and collaborations have been presented at the San Francisco Art Institute, Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Dallas Contemporary, UC Davis, Avignon OFF, WUK (Vienna), FemArt Festival (Kosovo), Müszi (Budapest), Contact Quarterly (cover image), and Sunday RUN_UP (Stockholm). He is a member of the Nita Little Dance Research Laboratory along with Ray Chung and other San Francisco based movement artists.
