Body Shift has been primarily a space for improvisation. From the monthly Elements classes to the semi-annual Performance Workshops, people have come together to explore dance and the body, using a welcoming environment to investigate everyone’s unique movement. This summer, we were able to take this process a step further by investigating and creating dances with our findings. Body Shift’s first ever choreography lab met for five Saturdays, led by Tanya Winters and Yvonne Keyrouz.
“What is it they say? If it’s meant to be, it’ll happen. I can not think of a more true statement to describe Body Shift’s, first ever, choreography lab. It was a lesson in pure joy to teach this small but mighty group!” -Tanya Winters
“I was honored and inspired by Body Shift’s first choreography lab. For five short weeks we danced, reflected, imagined, and created. At the end, we found ourselves with new perspectives and abilities.”
The process of creating choreography was exciting and challenging. Read more about the specific choreographic tools we used here. Creating, remembering, refining, and working in collaboration was the focus of our five sessions together. It was exciting to see patterns happen naturally. Connections and relationships happen all around us, day in and day out. All we need to do is tune in. People moving together is truly amazing to be a part of and watch!
